UK organisations involved in vocational education and training (VET) can apply for learner and staff mobility funding under Key Action 1.
This part of Key Action 1 is managed in the UK by Ecorys UK as part of the UK National Agency.
What mobility activities are possible?
Each project can last from 12 to 24 months and organisations active in vocational education and training can apply for funding to support any of the following mobility activities within a project:
- a VET traineeship in a programme country abroad.
Learners can take part in a traineeship abroad lasting up to 12 months. They can spend time in a workplace to gain real life experience or at a VET school where they will also spend time in industry or with another relevant organisation or enterprise. Each project can last either one or two years and organisations can apply for funding to support the mobility activities. The duration of the traineeship placement can be between two weeks and 12 months.
Recent graduates of a VET school or company, such as former apprentices, can also take part in mobility opportunities. This is providing the Erasmus+ training placement takes place within one year of graduation.
- teaching/training assignments – staff from VET schools can teach at a partner VET school abroad. Staff from VET enterprises can also provide training at a VET organisation abroad.
- staff training – staff can undertake professional development opportunities in the form of a work placement or job shadowing/observation period abroad in an enterprise or other VET organisation.
Funding can be used to support staff in charge of VET such as; teachers, trainers, mobility officers and staff with administrative or guidance functions working within the VET sending organisation. Staff mobility activities can last from two days to two months, excluding travel time. In the case of teaching and training assignments, staff from enterprises, public sector and/or society organisations may also participate.
Who can apply?
Any VET organisation sending learners and staff abroad, or the co-ordinator of a national mobility consortium. We strongly advise you to read the Erasmus+ Programme Guide for full eligibility criteria. Please note that each organisation can only apply for one Key Action 1 VET mobility project per funding Call. However if an organisation or institution is involved in more than one consortium, it could apply more than once.
VET organisations with experience in running mobility projects can apply for the Erasmus+ VET Mobility Charter which rewards and promotes quality in mobility. You do not have to be a Charter-holder to apply for VET funding.
If you are an apprentice or other learner, you are not able to apply directly for Erasmus+ funding. Please contact your college or organisation to find out more about the Erasmus+ mobility opportunities available to you.
How to apply
In 2020 there was one application deadline for VET learner and staff mobility funding on 11 February, and this has now passed. The guide for applicants (980 KB) is available for reference purposes only.
