Europass

Europass is a European initiative designed to help people make their skills and qualifications clearly and easily understood when moving around the UK and Europe. It helps provide information, where it is needed, by articulating skills gained during time spent within Europe, to giving a more detailed breakdown of an academic award.

If you are looking to work or study in Europe then Europass can provide you with the means to effectively promote your skills and competences. It is free to use and recognised all over Europe.

Its objectives are:

  • to help citizens communicate their skills and qualifications effectively when looking for a job or training opportunities;
  • to help employers understand the skills and qualifications of their workforce; and
  • to help education and training authorities define and communicate the content of curricula.

The Europass portfolio

Europass consists of five different documents, each designed to present an individuals skills and experience in the best way possible.

One of the key documents for Erasmus+ mobility participants is Europass Mobility - a document that allows you to record a period that you have spent learning or training abroad. The Europass Mobility document can also help with the recognition of your learning. Sending and receiving organisations involved should issue a Europass mobility certificate at the end of the mobility.

A key document for higher education participants is the Europass Diploma Supplement. This is an appendix to higher education diplomas for use in an international context. University registration departments are responsible for issuing the Diploma Supplement, although Europass provides the template and guidelines.

Europass also includes the European Skills Passport, an electronic folder that helps the learner to build up a personal inventory of their skills and qualifications.
